I have just done another screen capture of what is loaded and the performanc screen, something is working hard but nothing is running apart from firefox and thunderbird.
Hi Christine
It sounds although you have a program working in the background all of the time, and your PC is on overdrive at the moment. From your pictures it looks very busy at the moment.
One thing that is going through my mind - can I ask if you have a lot of programs running at the same time on your PC, so it causes the "performac" screen to go into overdrive as it does?
You could test this by making sure that all programs are shut down and see if there is a difference in the "performac" level. If there is are too many programs/applications you are using at one time, it may be the fact that you need to keep your current running applications to a limit.
I have Win98 ((blush
)), and if I end up with too many applications or replies from BF messages, my PC hangs and slows up and jitters about a bit (the mouse does it too). So I try to keep my Control bar quite clear of too much applications in the first place.
Just to state, I do have a lot of excess memory here to run AutoCAD Graphics and Microstation so I have to have that facility anyway. They are very big packages to run too.
This may be the fact with your PC that you are running too many applications at one time.
The other thing the program which is running should not be doing what it is at the moment and needs to be cleared out. It is stuck and refuses to go so it appears to me from what you are saying here
Doing this may mean a defrag of your PC (I do not know if XP does this automatically or not), I have to do it manually on Win98 with a few menus here and there. It takes a while to do and my PC sat doing it for 45 minutes last time, so it does take a while to finish.
I felt it worked too, and the speed of my PC has improved since.
Another minor important thing is so you clear out your temporary files on a daily basis? This stops the Technical traffic/cookies from slowing down your PC too.
It may be that you need to give your PC an overhaul in the file department and dispose of the unwanted clutter that had collected over time. Yes, it does do that a lot, from each time you log in, to using the web to whatever.
As you seem to have enough RAM/memory, it may be that excess files need to be cleared out.
Whatever it is I hope it is sorted soon. :t:
I hope this helps
Regards
Kathy
