Does the SF carrying case fit? (2 Viewers)

So you own a Land Rover. eh?

<B>

Brockie:

I referred to a Range Rover, which is different from a Land Rover, although it is made by Land Rover :-O.

Me own a Range Rover?? Lordie, no sirrreee. We have a Skoda Fabia Kombie. A Range Rover costs about 7-8 times more!!!

A Skoda? You're a star in a reasonably priced car! You could probably buy a Range Rover if you didn't spend so much money on pricey binoculars!

Sell the HT and FL (?) and downgrade to a Terra ED and buy a Land Rover SUV so you and your wife could go off road and see some new birds. The least expensive Land Rover is the Discovery Sport. You might even have enough money leftover to buy a Conquest HD.

If you want to pump up your life list, you need to go off-road.

You could be right Brock.

Many years ago we had a bright red Citroen 2CV6 with a 600cc flat twin engine. It had big narrow wheels but with its soft suspension it crawled successfully up many an impossible-looking off-highway track from Orkney to Uist to Islay and Jura, to Suffolk and Kent. A brilliant little car that we wish we still had, but the Skoda is perfect for us these days with the amount of kit we carry.

From what I've seen - no, they haven't. Not quite.

AK prisms still *do* make a difference, it seems.

Didn't you describe this as 'voodoo optics' a few weeks back? ;)
But I agree there could be something in this.

Around 10 years ago, Lee decided to address the concerns of some, regarding the 'fit', or lack of, of the sturdy clam shell case for the x42 SF's. When I was a x42 SF owner several years ago, I read this thread and was not reassured by Lee's findings. For me, trying to fit the SF's in the case, IPD and eyecups set for deployment, even using the method Lee described, was nigh on impossible to achieve.

So, 10 years on, has anyone found a more traditional style of binocular case which allows a x42 SF to be put away fully set with eyecups extended etc., which accommodates the length of the binocular, whilst still being a fairly snug fit?

The Conquest x56 case has enough space for the weekend grocery shop, even with the binoculars already in, and the Swaro XL field bag is similar, but an improvement and far better padded. Is the x54 Victory HT case a better fit? Or x56 Victory FL case? Galbin 10 is too short...

Any thoughts/solutions would be much appreciated. Thank you!

This one ? Case

Thanks Bezzer!

That's the first time I've seen one of the new style Zeiss cases labelled SF 42. It's the same as the SFL (and Conquest HDX?) cases, and I can't see any other retailers selling that case as a x42 case, so for now I'm just a little sceptical, but hopeful!

I'll look further into it and report back.

Edit: and of course the SF 32's have that style of case.

It would be worth checking, they have form for using the same photo for different items. (They used the same squared off aircell neck strap photo for that and the standard contoured strap) I bought a Conquest 40/45 case from there and it is the clip fastening one not the zipper, I thought the clip ones were for the 40 and up bins?

So, I think I've got my facts straight...

The case you linked to in post #27 is the case supplied with x40 SFL's, x42 Conquests and most likely x32 Victory SF's. It is very unlikely to accommodate a pair of 'set up' x42 Victory SF's with eyecups extended and all accessories attached. But, there is now a larger version of the same case intended for Conquest x56's, which I purchased from Castle Cameras yesterday and which arrived this morning. Link

The binoculars themselves are at my other address, so it'll be the weekend before I can check if they're a good match for the case, although I suspect it's going to be a little larger than ideal.

Yes indeed - the Swarovksi XL Field bag is a perfect fit. it's the case for the 56mm SLC's....part number FBP-XL

In the end, I've paired my 10x42 SF's with the old style Zeiss Conquest x56 cordura case. The supplied clam shell case and Galbin 10 were both non-starters for me, and of the three larger cases I tried, the old style Conquest x56 case was the smallest and snuggest. It's a little too wide, but otherwise a very good fit, with eyecups fully extended and all accessories attached.

The new style Conquest x56 HDX case is enormous, eclipsing even the XL Swaro Field Bag Pro for length. It's an absolute monster!
