When I bought the ED 50, I had the MC II zoom eyepiece which I used occasionally with the ED 82. It saves me from buying another eyepiece for the ED 50 because the DS30x always with the ED 82.
The view at 13-40x with ED50 is sufficient enough for my need in ID birds even in the dim rainforest and it is sharp up to 40x. Then I never bother to used the ED 82 in the forest except for waterbirds and open area. It saves my back!
Using ED 50 allowed me to carry camera with 80-400mm lens hahaha. So it was the best combo to have ED 82 and ED 50 for my birding tours. I sold both to purchased the EDG 85 and other lenses.
