ABSTRACT—Magyar, G.: Eponymous scientific bird names of Hungarian relevance. There is an increasing number of publications on the etymology of scientific bird names, both internationally and in Hungary. Out of the currently recognised 60 bird taxa described by Hungarian ornithologists 21 have eponymous epithets. Epithets of another eight taxa refer to persons of Hungarian origin. This communication summarises the biography of those commemorated in these names highlighting the reason of the particular name giving. It is indicated in the paper that the correct year of publication for Oriolus szalay is 1901 instead of 1900 given in major reference works.

Most of it is in Hungarian, although there's an English Summary, on pp.93-97.

Enjoy!
