European Honey Buzzard ??? (1 Viewer)

Hello,

two birds seen last week end in France, 70 km south of Paris, Fontainebleau Forest.
Unfortunately very, very far; and photo are terrible....
For me, at first, I thougt it was 2 Short-toed Snake Eagle; but someone told me I was mistaking. And it is two European Honey Buzzard. It is true that the black on the wings correspond more to European Honey Buzzard

I would appreciate conformation.

Yes, pale Honey Buzzards like this often are mistaken for Short-toed Eagles. 😉

I agree with that someone, structure definitely leans toward honey buzzard- black on the trailing edge and what we can make out of the the markings on the underwing also all point to H-B. Seems pretty definitive to me.

No visible tail banding is no problem. Often you don't see the banding at larger distances, 500 meters or more. Especially with males where they are hard to see at shorter distances anyway.
