Focusing with the Canon A570/A590 Camera (1 Viewer)

I was wondering if someone could give me a few tips on how to focus my Canon A590 (or A570). The scope is Fieldscope III 60mm ED. I can get some pretty good photos but I have to take many photos to get one that is in focus.
It is hard to get the screen to look like it is in focus

Here are the settings I have it on:
Macro
4x zoom
Shutter priority at 1/400 or 1/320

Anyone have any ideas?

Sound like you are using too much zoom!
Try without zoom or just 50% on some test objects and you may find it focuses a lot better / easier.

Also worth trying Aperture priority against shutter, I use aperture priority in all my Digiscoping.

Personally I am not sure why people are looking at these Canon cameras because are there not vignetting problems with the 4x zoom ala 620/640 which makes life a little difficult?

Hi Robert,
After all the discussions etc there's been about 4x Canon lenses there are actually two different ones. Those in the A5** range are perfectly usable without the vignetting problems of the A6** range :-O :-O Gotta laugh haven't you.

Regards

John

A570 is fine for zoom although I did not like it for focus, A640 was also ok but no zoom was usable, depends on the eyepiece. I rarely use zoom and just take shots at x1 through a 24x HDF ;-)

One has to zoom a bit and usually more than 2x to get rid of vignetting, so when you say zoom 1x, which camera are we talking of?

Even my A95 has to be zoomed to get rid of vignetting and dark corners!

As to the 570/590 how does the lens operate to zoom, is it just two segments or 3?

Robert

Only if your eyepiece is not wide enough compared to your camera, I use an Opticron MM2 ED with an HDF 40858M wide eyepiece and there is no vignetting at normal wide angle with an A570 and A640 and a Fuji F30, the F50fd just has a slight dark corner if Im not spot on (I Digiscope hand held). By 1x I meant no zoom, the zoom I think is in 7 parts from wide to 4x. My A85 was also full screen with vignetting, my eyepiece is fairly wide :t:

cheers
