I was a bit thrown by the leg colour. Thought, with the plumes, the legs would be reddish?
Varies I think. There's one in West Sussex that has had bright red legs, black bill and green lores since at least early March but no plumes. Also plenty of Cattle Egrets with full crests and orange crest/back but normal yellow bill and lores. Not sure if it's different in the US race of Great (White). Some egrets only seem to develop the bright bare-parts for a short time and others not at all despite plumage

I’ve only seen pictures of them, but have never seen reddish on the legs in plumage.
