Frog spawn in garden pond...... (1 Viewer)

Hi Mahsleb
These are eggs which have not been fertilized, I'm never sure whether the "fault" lies with the male or the female. Sometimes if you turn a clump over there are white eggs on the underneath that have got missed.
I found a clump of jelly this year with absolutely nothing in it so presumably she was infertile!

thanks Rose I don't think I've seen this before!
I've got masses of spawn now and most of it looks ok
Roll on hatching time...my pond needs a thorough clean up!

cheers:t:

Visited my Folk's in Birmingham last Week and they had a Pond full of
spawn ... They live in the City too, Alway's wondered how Frog's get
there lol, Here's a picture of One end of the pond,
Take care,
John,

Hi Mahsleb and John, it's exciting isn't it? I've now got lots and lots of tiny tadpoles swimming around. Trouble is now the water's going green and frothy, partly due to "Spring bloom" and partly due to the decomposition of the jelly.
I think the reason the frogs are in cties and towns John is that they (or their ancestors anyway!) were there first. Our ponds are a lifeline for them.

Hi Rose I should think your tadpoles will soon clear up the mess!
It's great to see everything bursting into life again.
I saw pondskaters today, the first this year,i don't know much about them
but love to watch their territorial skirmishes and antics

cheers
tony
