Grrr, neighbours that see Goosander when we don’t BH, a nasty tendency in my view!
Dan’s attic seawatching gymnastics remind me of my Garden listing when I lived at Selsey Bill- in order to get (a restricted) view of the sea I had to balance the ‘scope on the highest step of the kids’ slide by the garden fence!
« None but the brave deserve the scoter » as John Dryden (nearly) said.

I had to hang out of a window, with my angled scope in a sideways position, to see Wheater on my last house list.

The same neighbour has had Green Sandpiper in the garden and Crane over, though I have 2 Gooseanders in the garden over him. 😊

I've failed to see anything new since seeing most of the regular winterers on birdrace day,until today.

With seemingly perfect weather (-4) overnight, for some movement out of the ensuing wall to wall blue…not even a Wood Pigeon movement.😩 However with a 3 finch and 3 thrush day, surely something “new” would flit through?
Well it did, but I didn’t see it exactly…just heard it!…JENNY WREN no.48 (Britain’s commonest bird by all accounts) + a few regular’s in grdn. and on patch.

With seemingly perfect weather (-4) overnight, for some movement out of the ensuing wall to wall blue…not even a Wood Pigeon movement.😩 However with a 3 finch and 3 thrush day, surely something “new” would flit through?

Nice fox. Short to medium boots, broad muzzle suggests a dog fox, apparently insignificant teardrop markings. Quite distinctive.

Out of I suspect, our last wall to wall blue for a while, a pair of brilliantly lit Mistle Thrush staggered one above toth’er, winging high and South at 8.50am raised my hopes for the coming day.
Then at 9.40 “another” single high flying Northbound bird, with the sun kissing it’s grey rump and rich brown mantle morphing into FIELDFARE no.49.

I thought that was one of your Post 166 ‘three thrushes’ in your garden yesterday Ken, confusion reigns in my little brain!

Redwing, Song Thrush and Blackbird were my three thrushes!
Anymore misdemeanours of this nature Richard, will ensure a demotion from CID to the “Bobby’s bike”🤣

The Fieldfare image in post 166 was taken from Tuesday’s “patch” walk (post of 142) where I jammed into a flock of c40 Fieldfares, thinking a block of 4 looks neater than 3, I included one from that batch, this might explain the “out of sync.” numbering that is encountered by the “Wannabee Clousseaus” on here.😮
Hope that might clarify a non-event!
Never mind Richard, I’m sure you’ll creep into 40’s soon with your side kick.🤣

My 'on foot from home' list is now on 74 for the year & my patch yearlist is on 91 for the year. Not really built up any enthusiasm to go far from home yet this year with three brief forays off patch so far.

Since this is the Garden/Yard list thread, can I humbly suggest that it might be a good idea to restrict photos and sightings of birds on the thread to just birds seen as such? I mean, we could all post interesting birds we see nearby ... and it would keep it on topic a little more/less confusing ...

I don't wish to cause any offence at all, and it might be interesting to start a thread on your patch birds in the 'your birding day' section or somewhere, as I'm sure it would be interesting.

Meanwhile my actual garden list has moved on by one with this afternoon's Chiffchaff hopping about in the Buddleia before visiting the half apples and poking about in the bottom of the weeping cherry.

Four Redwings eating Holly berries this morning, as well. Much more what I was hoping for rather than the fat Woodpigeons that have been scoffing them!

Nothing of any consequence yesterday, though I did try locally for the Goosander that has flown over the garden. It has now been seen 4 times either side of my garden, along the R. Lark. Hopefully I will be in the right place one day to see it go over. As I got home and got out of the car, two #51 Fieldfare flew over.

Not much time for anything today, but I did cross the public footpath bridge at the bottom of the garden and saw a fisherman hook this freshwater Mussel out of the river. A new sighting for me. Not sure if it’s a Swan or Duck Mussel, but it’s a whopper. c.120mm long.
