Greater Scaup? (1 Viewer)

Hello

I was just cleaning up in some pictures from May last year in Poland.. This duck looks very much like a Greater Scaup to me, with the great white bliss on the front.. But Scaups in May would be rare around here and I have seen pictures of Tufted ducks with pretty big bliss as well, but not that big.. Is this just a Tufted duck female with really huge bliss or a Greater Scaup?

Sorry for the low quality of pictures..

Although a hard one due to blurred picture, I agree that this is indeeed a Greater Scaup, that can be identified with confidence. Extent of white blaze is out of variation for Tufted Duck for me too.
Jizz and colours are also good, bulk body and what appears to be the right rounded head shape for a Scaup, is also better for this species than for a Tufted Duck.
Even if taken date into account, but early May is still not that unusual for a Greater Scaup. So: When was it taken

Hi Alexander..

Thanks for your clarification.. The picture was taken 3 of May..

It's still pretty rare around here for May.. Usually the sighting declines strongly in this area in end of February, beginning of March..

As said already. Looks good for greater scaup, even considering the difficult photos, and also in Germany you always have a few staying long at the baltic sea coast
