grebes on a nest (1 Viewer)

i saw a pair of great crested grebes tending a nest today. what suprised me most was that there was an egg in there. unfortunatly it was half submerged so won't survive.

has anyone else seen an egg this early?

I once saw a chick about this time.

But the pair of grebes I'm watching at the moment aren't nesting yet, and the same goes for most or all of the neighbouring pairs on their lake.

So your pair may be slighty earlier than usual.
