Green Cay / Wakodahatchee wetlands (4 Viewers)

Saturday at Green Cay and Wako - the American widgeon was not at Green Cay, at least within sight. But man oh man were there a lot of limpkins! Looks like very good news for limpkin breeding there, as I saw at LEAST 3 distinct couples, in the process of mating and nesting. The place was filled with their calls.

Wako has at least two least bitterns back again - they were buzzing around between the back of the main pond and the south pond. Also, two or three kildeer were making flying passes - but never settled anyplace photographable. Common yellowthroats were indeed fairly common - spotted 3. Egyptian geese were still hanging out - at least 2 of them. Monk parakeet flock made a flyover. Baby GB herons not so 'baby' anymore - some of them are getting pretty large...watched the bigger guys scarfing whole 8-10 inch fish that mom brought back - denying any food to their smaller siblings.

Where are you seeing the geese?

When they're not flying directly over my head:

I usually see them hanging out on the levee on the north side of Wakodahatchee, behind where the heron islands are:

BTW, here's some of the baby heron action:

Yeah I was at GC today all afternoonand the Limpkins are calling like crazy they are all over the place just as you said along with Yellowthroats and Sora. Met a guy who looked like he knew what he was doing and he told me he saw Virginia Rail in the back on Friday. With all the sora about this doesn't surprise me at all and I caught a glimpse of one.

One of the prettiest sights at GC on Wednesday was by one of the most common inhabitants, the Glossy Ibis.

Good to know - I'm going to be there later today, and hope to see the same. Got to have lunch, then get my car washed, then I'm headed over. Afterwards, I'm going to see if I can find a clear horizon where I can shoot the moon.

COuldn't spot any V rails on Sunday at Wal but this Harrier put on a great show.

Wako was pretty good Saturday...but Virginia didn't come out for me either.

I did catch an unidentified hawk, which I *think* might have been a cooper's - he had a fairly darkish grey head and neck with traditional hawk wing patterns...if anyone can ID it from this pic, let me know:

Osprey gave me a gorgeous flyby last week:

And really really close closeups of the GBH this weekend:

Finally processed my Wilson's snipe shots from last month:

And that american widgeon over at Green Cay that finally gave me a real closeup:

Nice shot of the hawk and although no expert I concur that it is Coopers. Where in GC was the Widgeon hanging? Only able to get close to a female there a few weeks back. m(female widgeon that is)

That widgeon was a few weeks back too - I just got around to loading those shots as I was behind a bit. He was at Green Cay, around to the right, shortcut trail over the pond, back to the main path, turn left, around the left kink and down the straightaway, about 30 feet before the right-side gazebo...he was hanging very close to the boardwalk on the left side, roughly where that long log is that all the blue-winged teals like to sit on.

2 stilts and a flock of Whistling Ducks at GC today.

I did see a Cooper's perched at Wako a couple of weeks ago as well.

I saw a Sharpie near there too, but not in the park itself.
