Hello,
My wife and I just built a new house and one of the great things we have now is a porch with wonderful view and many birds to watch. I have always enjoyed watching birds, but never in a serious of formal way.
Stuff I have seen in the last 30 days:
Northern Yellow-shafred Flicker
Downy Woodpecker
Hairy Woodpecker
Pileated Woodpecker
Eastern Bluebird
Northern Cardinal
Bluejay
Nuthatch
Black-capped Chickadee
Goldfinch
Robin
warblers that I have not identified completely
sparrows
Heron of some kind that seems smaller than a blue heron
owls - have not seen them, but I hear them at night sometimes. Sounds like a skreech owl
Hummingbirds are my favorite to watch, but I believe they have migrated south by now and have not seen any.
We have a small pond with cat tails and wild grasses around the edge. We have a variety of tree cover in surrounding area with many large oaks, maples, birches, and some pine and firs.
I look forward to reading about what others are watching and learning more about birds in our area.
