Historical Review of Swift 804 Audubon Binoculars (1 Viewer)

Hi Members, I am interested in purchasing a second-hand Swift binocular in 8x mag for nature and bird watching. I would appreciate any advice on the best version to buy; I assume the latest model I can find considering it will have the latest coatings, However, I would prefer a non-rubber armour and non-rubber eyecups version. Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I assume 8.5 instead of 8 will do as well? My advice is to concentrate on the series Hiyoshi made for Swift from 1985 on. Issued in the USA are the Audubon, the 8x36 Hunter and the 8x42 Saratoga (in Europe more models were issued). However, I would also seriously consider 7's, for instance, the 7x35 Sport King and the 7x35 Neptune are very good. Note that these are all equipped with rubber eyecups. If you want Swift you'll have to accept their fine roll-on roll-off rubber cups.

Hi Renz, Thank you so much for your advice. I did have the opportunity to try a Swift Saratoga but I found the eyecups of 42 mm were so big they just did not fit my face, when adjusting for IPD the gap left for the bridge of my nose was too small; I am surprised I have not heard of anyone else having the same problem or maybe I have just missed those posts. Best regards
