Hungary and migrating Cranes (1 Viewer)

I'm thinking of having a week in Hungary this autumn to see the large numbers of migrating Cranes around Hortobagy National Park. Especially as Easyjet fly to Budapest from my local airport. From what I can make out, late October is the best time to see them, but the earliest I can get away is the 26th.

I'd hate to go all that way only to be told "You should have been here yesterday mate - tens of thousands of them then, but they've all left the area now". So if anyone can tell me anything at all about how long they hang around for (I realise this probably varies from year to year) I'd be very grateful.

Or any other tips for an inexperienced birder like myself visting Hungary without a guide.

Thanks

Hi Graham,

Sorry, but I only saw your post today ! I'm an Englishman living in Hungary.

PM me if you want more details.

All the best,

Colin.
