Kingfishers (24 Viewers)

I last saw the 2 River Rea juvenile Kingfishers together 11th Sept.
This week the adult male & female Kingfishers were back. The male chasing a juvenile.
Kingfisher along the River Rea at Lifford.
Yesterday a Merritt's Brook/Manor Farm park Kingfisher.
Last week a Kingfisher at the start of the River Stour/South of Halesowen.
I saw a very young juvenile in the Bourn Brook valley start of the month. Not seen it since.
Kingfishers chasing/calling at the Bourn Brook big pipes & down the uni stretch.

2 Dippers this week along the River Stour, up stream, busy feeding & they both checked out the bridge ledge for food.
Bourn Brook Kingfishers at the large pipes and this morning the blue bridge.
3 Kingfisher along the River Rea, adult m&f and a juvenile.
Good to hear the juvenile calling at first light along the usual first light stretch.

2 Dippers on the River Stour this week.
One looked like an adult, the other a juvenile. Floodwater had been up over the banks.
River Rea & Bourn Brook Kingfishers this week. KN & Lifford stretches of the Rea & a first light juvenile, usual stretch.

It looks like the River Stour Dippers have moved on due to high river water levels after the rain (no exposed rocks/rifles for them).
First light River Rea and Bourn Brook Kingfishers, one is a juvenile and I can hear it's call slowly maturing.
Then it was an adult female then replaced by an adult male who chased the juvenile one morning & I assume has chased the female off.
Then I've seen Kingfishers at Ten Acres, Lifford and on the Bourn.
I've seen Kingfishers on the Bourn Brook at the Uni and blue bridge.
There was a Kingfisher a couple times on the Illey Brook, I've seen a Kestrel nearby a few times.
One or two Peregrine on the pylon nearby.

In December 2023, there were 3 Kingfisher at CH/DH.
There was a juvenile that flew downstream from roost.
A female would fly in from Edgbaston to the DH at first light.
A male was then along the main territory (Stirchley to CH).
With all the heavy rain sometimes they would appear and fly elsewhere or heavy Rea flow not at all.

Along the Bourn Brook end of Summer 2023 there were 2 Kingfisher. An adult female and juvenile.
Into Winter 2023 I did not see much of these Kingfishers, only very briefly at the regular spots.
Then December when it was not heavy rain/flow the female appeared briefly.
End of 2023, start of Jan 2024 she's now along the Uni stretch (seen also by the old res & blue bridge)
Same time it looks like the juvenile is back at the blue bridge.

River Stour Dipper 1st Feb & 27th Feb
River Rea Kingfishers 4 territories this week and one on the Bourn Brook.
Pair of Kestrels SW Halesowen.
Sonechats at Illey with a wintering pair.
My Bham urban back garden this week; Brambling, daily Siskin now for a couple weeks. Several Greenfinch, Chaffinch & Goldfinch.
