Hello to one and all, birders and site persons and whoever else.
I live in Westchester County, NY, and my children, after having seen the movie 8 times, have concluded we should do a collective big year.
It matters not to them that we started August 1st, lol.
So I deem it "the Little Big Year." So far, as of August 18th, we have 18 birds.
Fear not, though: that number will increase (we hope) when we visit Vermont next week, Block Island in early October, Cape May a week later, Central Park now and again, and various places in New England and upstate NY during the autumn.
I am secretly hoping to crack 100 and go from there. In our own county and nearby Connecticut (we live close to the Audubon in Greenwich) there are allegedly some 400+ species to be seen, so there's opportunity.
If they're still interested, we'll go to McAllen TX in the winter and get a jump on 2013. Meantime, I'm trying to get my old eyes used to focusing through binoculars.
Peace, J
