Wow! Who's the outgoing (outgone? outwent?) character?
MJB

Probably the bloke they caught illegally shooting who was in court, fined, then dismissed by FKNK...... you know, the one who they say had a "minor" position in the organisation ;);)

I don't know how may of you have seen a shoot in action, but I've had the misfortune to witness a pheasant shoot and farmers after a black grouse on moorland...basically they scare the living **** out of the bird first to flush it,then shoot it from such a close range they could hardly miss..There is no such thing as "civilised"involved in any of it,and no matter which part of society they come from they lack compassion or they just couldn't kill in cold blood. This is the same in any country with a hunting tradition, the same callous attitude prevails which is why you hear of birders being attacked by these people.

I totally agree, it's beyond me how a normal person could enjoy killing something for fun. Why else would they enjoy it?, they're not doing it for food, it costs a fortune for this so-called sport. And how about all the maimed ones that are still in the undergrowth?, where's the fun in that?.

I assume that he means conservation efforts and talks various wildlife organisations birders give to schools worldwide ! does he not mean "education"

FKNK are going through a court case instigated by Birdlife regarding the indoctrination of school children. The next hearing is in October. I would appreciate receiving any material that could be used to substantiate this fact. If you have any copies of Club Huttafa magazines which BLM circulate in schools with references to hunting, past examination papers that refer to hunting, etc,. please forward them to the undersigned. Any such material will be returned should you so require.

Thank you.

Autumn hunting ‘curfew’ to stay

Despite never having been recommended by the Ornis Committee to date, this year the FKNK were outvoted, when at the last Ornis Committee Meeting it was proposed that the September afternoon hunting ‘curfew’, imposed by Government for the past 5 years should be retained. This afternoon ban, only serves to give more freedom of movement to abolitionist organizations whilst depriving the Maltese hunters from participating in a full open hunting season as opposed to their counterparts in all other European Member States for whom an open season is an open season.

The Committee therefore decided to recommend to the Minister that a ‘curfew’, albeit maybe with revised timings, should still be imposed this autumn. Government’s decision could be intent on pleasing BirdLife Malta (BLM) even more if their request to extend such curfew to October is accepted. The Meeting outvoted a further proposal for ‘collective punishment’ should the recommended ‘curfew’ be somehow violated.

This Committee’s decision to impose the ‘curfew’, may be, in the FKNK’s opinion, inconclusive, since before the final vote was taken on whether or not a ‘curfew’ should be imposed, three previous related votes which proposed different ‘curfews’ did not manage to obtain a majority vote.

The Meeting also voted in support of having fixed open hunting seasons as from this autumn/winter. The Committee turned down another BLM proposal to further hassle and burden hunters during the autumn open hunting season.

Live-finch capturing will most likely not be permitted

Notwithstanding, that the FKNK is under the impression that live-finch capturing for this autumn is not a likely possibility, since Government fears it is not adequately prepared to apply the relative derogation in time, this topic, together with the application of derogation to permit live-capturing of huntable species this autumn/winter, will be the agenda items for discussion at the next Ornis Committee meeting set for August.

It has to be emphasized that the FKNK has already, quite some time ago, supplied Government, the Opposition and the Malta Ornis Committee with adequate proposals and tools for the correct application of derogations to permit the Maltese traditional socio-cultural recreations of live-bird capturing in autumn/winter.

Finally, and for the benefit of its members, the FKNK will continue to work constructively in order that any further “gold-plating” (non-EU requisites) such as the autumn curfew will not reoccur and also to work incessantly such that live-finch capturing will have a correct derogation applied in the spirit of and in line with the PL/FKNK working group discussions since 2010 and the Joint media release of both parties dated the 4th March 2013.

Announcement of the Autumn/Winter hunting season from land and sea

13 August 2013

The Federation for Hunting and Conservation – Malta (FKNK) refers to the announcement of the Autumn/Winter hunting season from land and sea.

Fully cognizant of the severe pressures that have been created on the subject and fully supportive of any efforts to curtail illegal activities, the FKNK wishes to emphasise the immense importance on the fact that protected birds are not targeted by the irresponsible minority.

In its unrelenting effort to curtail any illegal activities in the field that could in any manner be connected with hunting, the FKNK appeals to the general public and more so to its members to report any witnessed poaching activities directly to the Malta Police on telephone no 21224001 or on hotline 112.

The FKNK also reiterates that it will not tolerate any abuses and will revoke the membership of any of its members found guilty of poaching any protected birds.

Despite the fact that legal hunters are being unnecessarily restricted during a perfectly legal hunting season, the FKNK will support Government’s first step towards gradually eliminating a curfew that was unilaterally imposed during such season and that only served to reduce the number of legal hunters out in the field who thus deter poachers. This is being said with full responsibility and determination of the FKNK to remain evermore disposed to itself initiate any appropriate action as well as co-operate fully and unreservedly with the police in respect of any reported infringements.

Hollow BLM Question

A hunter, a Federation for Hunting & Conservation – Malta (FKNK) member, was on the scene at the time of the shooting of a black stork last Wednesday in the early morning. This same person was responsible to supply the FKNK with the bird’s photographs which accompanied the FKNK’s relative media release on the same morning of the incident. This FKNK member also handed over the shot bird to the police when these arrived, with BirdLife Malta (BLM) activists only arriving later.

This renders BLM’s question “Where was the FKNK?” in this instance entirely hollow.

Further BLM Untruths and Scaremongering Statements

On the eve of EU Environment Commission officials’ visit to Malta, BirdLife Malta (BLM) are again spreading deceitful and alarmist rumours to further tarnish Malta’s image.

BLM have been reported stating that “More than 70 per cent of the protected birds targeted by illegal hunters since September 15 were shot at in the afternoon hunting hours previously covered by the 3pm hunting curfew,..”.

The Federation for Hunting & Conservation – Malta (FKNK) has not received a single report of any protected bird being shot during the period in question.

The 3:00 pm curfew had been imposed by the previous administration on BLM’s request so that BLM, during said period, could invite over volunteer tourists who would be at liberty to roam the Maltese countryside with total disregard of private property rights, besides being nuisances with their neo-colonialism attitudes. Both the 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm curfew at present in force up to 7 October, are not EU legislation requisites.

where have all the emails gone !!!

Oh well looks like FKNK have finally removed me from their mailing list :-C anyway two items that deserve looking at being as the slaughter is still being allowed to continue with illegal hunting worse than ever. Also note the petty replies the hunters are posting on the sites.
