The Sunday bird walk went to Morrell Sanctuary in Nanaimo. The morning was sunny with a brisk wind. A Barrows Goldeneye was seen at Morrell Lake. The sighting of the morning was a Western Tanager seen at top of a tall snag at the marsh, giving us great views. We heard and then saw both the Hammond’s Flycatcher and a Pacific-slope Flycatcher. A Black-headed Grosbeak was heard at the start of the walk. Many Orange-crowned Warblers, Black-throated Gray Warblers, several Townsend’s Warblers, four Wilson’s Warblers, three Yellow Warblers and several Yellow-rumped Warblers were seen on the walk. A Hutton’s Vireo, a Cassin’s Vireo and a Warbling Vireo were seen during the morning.
Thirteen birders saw and hear the following thirty-eight species:

A Western Tanager was seen behind Brockwood Marsh in Lantzville.
Friday, May 03:
A Black-headed Grosbeak was seen at the Morrell Circle in Morrell Sanctuary in Nanaimo.
A Western Tanager was seen along the Power Line at Legacy Marsh in upper Lantzville.
Parksville/Qualicum Beach Tuesday Bird Walk, April 30, 2019:
The Tuesday Bird Walk on April 30, 2019 went to the Plummer Road side of the Englishman River in Parksville. The morning was mostly sunny with calm winds. We were greeted with the sighting of Rufous Hummingbirds at the start of the walk and they entertained us for most of the morning. We heard a Red-breasted Sapsucker’s musical tapping on tree trunk from the forest. A small flock of Baird’s Sandpipers were seen along the incoming tide. A very large flock of Dunlin and Black-bellied Plovers were running along the estuary giving us great views. Red-neck Grebe, Surf Scoters, Common Merganser, Red-breasted Merganser, Pacific Loons and Common Loons were seen on the Strait of Georgia.
Twenty-five birders including visiting birders from Australia, Ontario and Alberta saw the following fifty-eight species:

The Tuesday Bird Walk on May 07, 2019 will be going to Top Bridge Trail in Parksville. Meet at the Parksville Community Park (near the Lions Club playground parking area) in Parksville at 9:00 am, or at the trail head on Industrial Way and Tuan Road in Parksville about 9:10 am.
The Sunday Bird Walk on May 12 2019 will be going to The Beaver Ponds in Nanoose Bay. Meet at the Backyard Wildbird and Nature Store (6314 Metral Drive in Nanaimo) at 9:00 am or the parking area about one hundreds past the four way stop on Power Point Road( take Northwest Bay Road to Power Point Road) at about 9:15 am.
