Wicklow Ireland

I ran 7 traps, 3 125w MV and 4 15w actinic. Most in home place but 2 off site. One of these was compromised by the presence of horses at a secluded site and nervous of placing trap at weekend I compromised the placement by hiding it. It didn't catch very much.

It stayed above 10C till nearly 3am before dropping to 3C and grass temperature falling to -4C!
Breezy early on, but nearly all traps were sheltered from breeze.

The highest single trap total was 26 species. Still have 2 Agonopterix/Depressaria to ID and I'm wondering about the Prays fraxinella. It was dark form but very early. I got one last week as well and I've been trying to turn it into something else without success
Another 5 daytime/dusking species yet to log which included a Cinnabar. Some expected species such as Brimstone Moth, Muslin moth and Nut-tree Tussock missing, but also got unexpected species such as a very early Small Clouded Brindle.

Here in London I didn't fare very well.

Three 125w mv moth traps were run (one in Battersea Park and two at the London Wetland Centre) both in VC 17

The first was a public event and produced five specimens of just four species (2 Brimstone and one each of Pale Prominent, Seraphim and Phyllonorycter platani)

The second two produced 15 specimens of just eleven species (Phyllonorycter platani, Shuttle-shaped Dart, Dark Sword-grass, Silver Y, Brimstone, Knot Grass, Common Wave, Epiphyas postvittana plus one Pug, two Torts (probably an Epinotia sp.), and a Parornix sp. yet to be identified).

Again, it was cold with clear skies and a temperature of about 4ºC but ‘singing’ Marsh frohs and Cetti’s Warbler made it seem like the Med.

The highlight for me was a site tick in the form of a hedgehog!
