Need help identifying this raptor (1 Viewer)

Hello! I've been recently to Angola and saw the following perched raptor:

I'm quite puzzled with this bird, currently stuck between a lizard buzzard, a Gabar goshawk and a Ovambo sparrowhawk as they all occur within the observation location.

The bird stayed perched just long enough for me to snap two pictures through the scope. The bird was not that big, probably around the size of a dove or slightly larger, it had red feet and an upright posture, no chin strip was visible, slightly baggy legs with feathers being clear than the rest of the body.

Currently more inclined towards a Gabar goshawk but the chest stripping seems a bit off. Appreciate any and all insights!

Looks fine for Ovambo I think. This is a good example of a shot where adjustment using curves would help

Hey! Thanks for the input, what makes you more inclined towards an Ovambo?

I think I understand what you mean by adjustment curves,I've added an edited version of the photo with higher contrast and lower brightness. I seems that the barring goes all the way up to the head, which would be more consistent with Ovambo,

Cheers

Hi birdflew and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I look forward to hearing your news.

Agree with The Fern: Ovambo
Smallish head on broad shoulders
barring going up to throat
very long middle toe
