No one knows whether the eyecups of the HDX fix the problems of the old ones. No one has even had an HDX in hand, so maybe just wait until the early adopters and reviewers come forth with real-world information about the new binos. There is a lot of speculation going on right now, and people produce a lot of hot air.
I just wanted to add an update to this thread that I started a while back.
First: I haven't seen the HDX myself, but multiple emerging reviews are indicating that the eyecups are much improved. [I'm not surprised: Zeiss must have been frustrated by the issues with the HD eyecups, and they're a serious alpha company, so they rectified.]
Second: highly knowledgeable forum regular Jan van Daalen indicates on another recent thread that he tried the HDX eyecups on HD binoculars and they fit perfectly. I haven't confirmed this myself, but it's a possible option worth bearing in mind.
Third, and as outlined in a post above: if like me you have problems with HD eyecups breaking, insulating tape can help! At any rate as a temporary measure before trying HDX eyecups.
Except for the (resolvable) eyecup issue, I'm really happy with my 8x32 HDs.
[If it is indeed the case that HDX eyecups fit HDs, and are available for purchase or for free, that's pretty impressive from Zeiss: the happy opposite of planned obsolescence!]

I spoke to a Zeiss representative, and he said he didn't know if they would fit and that the HDX eyecups are not available yet because these binoculars just came out. I looked at a pair of Zeiss Conquest HDX 8x42's, and the eyecups didn't have click stops but were very smooth when twisted upwards and downwards.
