Opinions on OUP books (1 Viewer)

check out your nearest remaindered book stores - I've seen this going for £10

While it tells you every thing you want to know about the birds, eg, food, migration, breeding, etc - and it is the last word on all these topics - it is not primarily an identification guide.

Have a look at www.birdguides.com They are about to release the whole of BWP on DVD ROM complete with songs, videos etc.

If you are looking specifically for ID guides, take a look at the books published by Helm. There was one on buntings by, IIRC, Clive Byers, originally published by Pica Press.

It is also worth looking out second hand copies of the Macmillan Guide to Bird Identification by Harris Tucker and Vinicombe which is like a field guide but concentrates purely on confusion species. There's a companion volume by Harris, Shirihai and Christie giving a more European coverage.

Might be worth going to whatever large library is closest to you and having a look at their reference section. There is a pretty good chance that you'll find BWP there, amongst other stuff. Even a local library will be able to tell you which library with it is nearest to you. One place where you can browse at length and then buy cheapest from the internet without a qualm!
