A lady on marketplace advertised these for free and being curious I took her up on the offer. She said they fall apart on touch and she wasn't wrong.

I think I have identified the right model but open to correction. The optics are pristine thankfully and my plan is to strip the armour and find a suitable way of strapping them up. Again open to suggestions on how to do this.

the armour is all sticky and flaking off. Naturally the manufacturer didnt want to know. [I didnt contact them this is what i was told].

Using Bank of England's inflation calculator and the RRP mentioned here in today's money they would be £291.37. So naturally I am quite pleased with myself.

That model was discontinued 14 years ago and carried a 10 year warranty. We no longer have any spare parts available I'm afraid.

You might be able to get someone in our service department to see if we have some alternative rubber eyecups - call 01582 726522 or email [email protected].

Cheers, Pete

No idea. Some things I'm considering as a way to cover the body.

1. Plastic dip rubber spray on coating or equivalent.
2. Bicycle tube or shrink wrap.
3. Some sort of tape.
4. Sugru looks interesting but difficult to get a good finish.
5. Fitted leather[ i dabble in leather work]

Fully stripped. I think they look sort of 80s retro cool, those fins are like a Testarossa or KITT from Knight Rider.

Working fine. Interesting to see several areas covered with foil tape and sealant. For service

Would love to recreate the Ultravid 8 x 20 or an Ultravid Silverline colour scheme. Beautiful designs.

Got in touch with Opticron and they are able to get the eyecups and rubber focuser cover[recommended as dirt can get in]. Very helpful and apologetic about the rubber situation.

They explained that the factory who owned the moulds sold them and it's just not feasible to retool etc to service an old line.
