I kind of hope that no big announcement will come in the near future, mainly because I fear it will somehow get the attention of a certain president and his bootlickers and they will get involved in the matter that will make things worse for everyone, like forbidding splits and lumps

Tbh, I think the way Trump has been renaming things should make us rethink if renaming things is actually worth anything at all.

Normally I wouldn't take this so seriously, but as has been said above, these are not normal times. The administration is currently taking steps to sneak around a court order allowing the AP back into press conferences - the initial refusal to allow traditional press access stems from AP's use of "Gulf of Mexico" like the rest of the world instead of "Gulf of America."

In light of the many petty acts such as this going on, it would be shocking if the AOS were unaware of the potential for any announcement on name changes to put an immediate target on their back. They are a nonprofit and already vulnerable. Regardless of where you fall on the eponym issue, who could blame them for wanting to lay low in this environment?

Yeah...normally I would say the worst that could happen is an executive order to prevent government sources from using the new names, but I could easily see the administration revoking the tax exempt status of AOS or even going through and stopping grants paid to members.

I don't know, I still think Gray Jay is a better name than Canada Jay. I wouldn't complain too much about that one...

Always wondered about the thinking behind that total waste of time.....it's a jay, it's grey and found in the US and Canada....what was the bloody point?? It'll always stay Grey Jay on my list 🤷

They should have held off the name change until the split happens. Then they could have split Gray Jay into Canada Jay and Oregon Jay
