Possible American Wigeon - Wisconsin (1 Viewer)

I also have a question about this duck. It had a white "mohawk" on the top of its head and white patches on its wings.

It looked like an American Wigeon in my book but it didn't have any green on its head. I looked at many pics on the web but all the ones I saw had the green around its eyes.

Is it possible its a juvie and the white on its head is there already but not the green? Or am I way off and its a completely different duck? :h?:

Thanks

Hey Birdman

As you guessed this is an adult male American Wigeon. Perhaps the weather was a little overcast when you took this picture, so you can't see the green around the eyes clearly.

American Widgeon, I concur. If the "mohawk" were more 'buffy' in tone, with a rust-colored head (rather than iridescent green-black), you'd be looking at a "Eurasian". And yes, I've seen many juvies with the green not fully developed.
