in Dallas Oregon. Anyone else in north Oregon seeing them? I think this is the earliest I have ever seen one in OR or WA.

I usually get to see one at least once a year and my Ruby-throats don't put up with them well

My first showed up here, on the Kitsap Peninsula, Wa., 3 days ago. Dug up a photo taken last year on March 17. It's been a very cold Spring. The male rufous harassed every bird that came near the feeder at first. I think someone put him in his place as he's settled into the order.

It's been a very cold Spring...

That's for sure! I spotted my first swallow of spring on March 19 last year, have not seen one yet this year and its April 7.

And I just saw the Rufous again. It is "visiting" a red-colored manufacturers label on a window of a house being built behind me. There are a lot of hummer feeders in the neighborhood, so the Rufous must be hanging around until the weather improves and things finally start blooming.
