Bullfinch

Bullfinch was first documented in the Valley in 1952 census data from the early eighties suggested there where several breeding pairs in 1988 it was estimated there where in the region of 15 pairs present in the Valley. In the 1990s there where no more than ten pairs. Max numbers in the past have been 25 birds in 1984,20 birds in 1989 and 20 birds in 2014
Bullfinch breeding populations have declined by more than a half in the past 25 years. This places them on the red data list, requiring urgent action to halt their decline.

That will teach us to be more careful! Late yesterday we took a walk around Forge Mill stopping at the Marshes where we saw a number of duck in the fading light 4 Shovelers and some Gadwall, but we didn't look to closely, should have done as we must have missed the Pintail, very annoying! As it was getting dark a fair number of Goosander turned up bringing their count up to c25 only saw a single Pochard as we walked around.

Always read your posts Yamyam, so keep up the good work!
Cheers

The first documented record for the Valley was in 1988; my first was seen in September 1992. Between 1988 and 1999 there where only seven documented records, Since 2000 they have I believe been recorded annually with birds only a short distance from the Valley they have became a more regular sight. To my knowledge there are at least five pairs in the urban areas that surround the Valley.
