Got some of these small greenish-yellow birds (about the size of a hummingbird. Maybe slightly larger) nesting in a pepper tree in the backyard. This is in Orange County, California. I've seen a whitish ring around the eye. They make a sort of peep sound. I think I saw some of them being a brownish gray color also. I assumed these where the males. The hanging nest looks sort of like a long patchwork beehive with a small hole near the top. I managed to get a photo of a bird emerging from the nest, but lighting isn't ideal. https://66.media.tumblr.com/ac1f98df20b07356a864fb4ff85dde89/tumblr_p82wy2sm9l1qdezf9o3_r1_1280.jpg
Originally there were only a few, but now there is a huge group of them that seems to travel around together. I assume they're building nests again as I saw them foraging around in the trees today.
Based on what I found online, my guess was bushtit birds because they have the nest that looks the closest to it, but I haven't seen any pictures of green or yellow bushtit birds! I appreciate any help that anybody can offer. They're neat little birds.
