Unfortunately the Surf Scoter could not be refound today, we spent much time in the cold looking but only a Velvet Scoter was found. The Spotted Sandpiper was in the usual area however on the opposite side of the lake.I visited Geneva for the Surf Scoter and Spotted Sandpiper. Both performed great in front of groups of birders.
The Spotted Sandpiper is still present by the lakeside in the Perle du Lac area in Geneva.Nice birds still around..part 2
- Whooper Swans at Klingnauersee
- Pine Bunting in Ticino
- Tundra Swan in TG
- Common Diver in Lake Constant
- Mealy Redpoll in JU
- Greater White fronted Goose at Klingnauersee
Increasingly the answer to that at all levels from molecular up is no.....Bird of the day...Common Redpoll.
Several seen in Vouvry (VS). My favourite place for seeing them is in Arolla (VS).
However can anybody clarify the differences between the following;
- Common Redpoll
- Mealy Redpoll
- Mountain Redpoll
- Lesser Redpoll
- Artic Redpoll.
It's not so much the million Brambling but the tens of raptors waiting for them to arrive. Many years ago there was a flock of Brambling in the Jura reputed to be 5 or 6 million strong. The numbers of Sparrowhawks, Goshawks and Peregrines were quite extraordinary.At least a million Brambling estimated as coming to roost this week between Langenthal BE et St-Urban LU, just in case anybody hasn’t ticked one on their Yearlist yet
