The Habicht 10x40 ... (1 Viewer)

Thoroughly agree, the habicht series are a class act. Arguably the best CF Porro's money can buy.

It's also a bit of an enigma. You could change them with wider field eye lenses, twist up eye cups, a lighter focuser and more eye relief but all these featured dilute the view, robbing photons, lessening waterproofing and adding weight at every stage with yet another piece of glass - and making them less rugged.

The 10x35 Nikon E2's have a smooth focuser and wider eyelens and cups, but you give up some aperture and add some false color. For me these two are easier and more comfortable to grip and hold than anything but the Zeiss SF 42mm's, that's a big reason to use them. Also the 3D stereoscopic factor is nice and unique.

At 21 and 24 ounces they're lighter than most 32mm and 42mm roofs.

Ah the old habicht Vs e2 debate! I think that could rumble on for a good few more years, I did say arguably...

I've got an e2 and use it a lot - it's all diminished returns from the e2 up unless you need long eye relief and waterproofing that is.

When I'm up to this kind of caper living in a tent in the wilderness though I know which I'd rather have round my neck....

no debate here! They're both good. They only compete against each other in the 8x30 size. I'd love to get my hands on some 10x40 Habicht for astronomy.

looks like a beautiful spot to camp btw

How about a Habicht 10x40 - 10x42 Nikon SE comparison? I ask because I’m very used to the Nikon having owned one for ten years. I don’t wear glasses with my bins, but I have deep set eyes, so I need a lot of eye relief.

I agree, and why would anyone be bothered by PFAS's on binoculars. I do not know anyone that
ingests them..........

Its not a topic of consuming PFAS directly, it is an environment topic since PFAS's do not decay on natural way or cant be burned so the will stay in the environment nearly forever and we will consum them via fish, meat or maybe also vegtables.

Actually there was a recent news item about development of a method of removing them from drinking water, which of course could be applied to factory effluent also. Some sort of matrix that captures them, followed by a novel process of destroying them, that seems to work in lab tests. Zeiss or Leica could volunteer to install the first system and out-eco Swarovski with no sacrifice to the customer.

Habicht 7x42 would also seem to me a good choice. But I have no experience with them other than a brief look though a pair. Good they were. I will try these at dusk some time in the near future.
