Two female blackbirds fighting over nest? (1 Viewer)

Hi folks,

I have a female blackbird nesting in my tool shed. She has five unhatched eggs and has been on the nest for about a week.

Today whilst I was doing something else in the shed another female came in and attacked the female on the nest. They proceeded to fight for a good minute, quite ferociously on the floor until I walked closer and broke it up!

I wondered why this was happening? Could they have both layed eggs there or does another want to "take over" the nest and steal the eggs?

It looks a comfortable nest - would another blackbird try to wrestle it from another?

They intruder flew off and was followed by the one sitting on the nest. I have seen the intruder in the shed before and wondered if it was a daughter or a friend of the mother blackbird, but the fighting wasn't friendly at all!
