From the reserve this morning Andy Thomas reports:

Flashes - 20 Avocet and 2 Little Ringed Plover

Sailing Pool - Swallow and 50 Sand Martin

Flashes - Egyptian Goose flew through (#100 for the year after a blank year in 2018)

First ever March record of Egyptian Goose for the reserve
 
couple of hours this afternoon - 2 LRPs in the channel underneath main hide at the flashes, counted 15 avocets, Moors had a flyover sparrowhawk, 1 curlew and two little egrets flying over North Moors

There was one sighting of Egyptian Goose last year. On the morning of Thursday 25th October Clive Lee had one briefly at the Flashes.

From the Flashes this morning Andy P reports:

31 Avocet, 4 Little Ringed Plover, 2 Curlew, 2 Oystercatcher, 12 Lapwing, Green Sandpiper until 0715, 8 Teal, 4 Shelduck, 2 Shoveler, drake Gadwall, Little Grebe

March closed with a monthly list of 92 species and the year list advanced to 100. This was slightly down on the medium term average for March at 93.57 species.

April nowadays is usually the most productive month of the year with an average of 113.67 species and a highest recorded monthly total of 119 (2013). Indeed the four highest monthly totals are all Aprils. Potential additions to the year list this month include (those already achieved in bold):

Garganey, Common Scoter, Marsh Harrier, Hobby, Greenshank, Whimbrel, Bar-tailed Godwit, Ruff, Ringed Plover, Grey Plover, Common Sandpiper, Wood Sandpiper, Sanderling, Turnstone, Little Gull, Kittiwake, Common Tern, Arctic Tern, Black Tern, Sandwich Tern, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Cuckoo, Swift, Yellow Wagtail, House Martin, Wheatear, Whinchat, Redstart, Whitethroat, Lesser Whitethroat, Reed Warbler, Sedge Warbler, Garden Warbler, Willow Warbler, Yellowhammer

A Collared Dove - not a common bird on the reserve these days - was seen near Hobden Hall farm buildings from the Jacobs Hide late morning.
 
The usual question Des - how many birds do you think were present across the reserve:

Oystercatcher - the usual 6 or has an additional pair arrived?
LRP - was there duplication in the numbers from the Moors Pool and Flashes?
