UVHD+ 7x42 Eyecups a Little Short (1 Viewer)

Depending on the model involved, it seems Leica may send you either taller rubber rings to put on your existing sleeves, or taller sleeves to put your existing rubber on. (I suppose if you already have both, you're out of luck.) Why both parts can vary, I'm not sure. Why they don't just build in 2-3mm more depth in the first place I'll never understand, but other manufacturers have this problem too.

I wound up purchasing some 10x42 rubber replacements and hopefully they will be here next week. I did have a junk pair of Swift Trilyte 8x42's that were way out of collimation and the scavenged rubber ocular covers slipped over my UVHD's (without the Leicas rubber bonnets installed). They solve any black out issues in the short term and are actually extremely comfortable. It reminds me of sinking my eyes into my Fujinon Polaris 7x50 set. The rainguard from Leica slips on easily too.

I cannot say enough good things about the UVHD 7x42's comfortable view. I loved my 8x42 Pures and was so very proud of them. I realized I couldnt use all of the view they offered. These allow me the steadiness of the 7x and are plenty sharp for my needs. Their size and weight suits me perfectly.

The small bit of engineering this would take is mind boggling easy to me as well. In studying the eyecup's detents, they literally could add a little round socket at the furthest end of the travel to create one more stop before they detach. Rather, it is one straight, fully grooved rail. It is a missed opportunity. I could use these in this setting without any blackouts but I didnt like that they were not "clicked" in and could fall off if the rainguard tugged, etc.
