Hello, I have recently returned to bird watching in earnest now my children are older. I am seeking advice re a spare part for a velbon ph 157q tripod as the locking latch or whatever it is called has just broken. Would people know if it is possible to get such a spare part. Internet search shows plenty of locking plates and pins available but I could not find any mention of a compatible locking latch.

I don't know if you can find this but I have this head (on a sherpa 800) and I don't like it, I feel really uncomfortable to use, the x axe is good but the y is to hard...or to loose if you loosens it and the handle screw get also little loosen with a a sudden jerk at the beginning of the move.
I'd advise to change the complete head for a better one. I don't know where you from but here in France, a second
hand manfrotto 124 or 804 can be found for 35€...

I you are in France and absolutely want a ph157q, I'm waiting my own 124rc to replace my own ph157q in pretty good condition, I think maybe sell it after for more or less 20€...

I obtained spare parts for a Velbon monopod in the past from the UK distributor at a sensible price. This is what Velbon is currently recommending :

However, whilst the UK distributor back in 2022 was in the UK, the current UK distributor is in Poland. I would try emailing Jakub Czerwinski as Velbon direct. Attaching a photo to your email of what's broken would probably help.
