What's nesting in your garden this spring? (1 Viewer)

With spring in full swing, what birds are nesting in your garden or yard or in or on your abode?

This spring I have had a pair of dunnocks which nested in a hawthorn hedge, a pair of robins which are nesting in an old football I stuffed in a hedge and a pair of house sparrows in a nestbox concealed behind a large fuschia shrub.

Si.

Was hopeful of some blue tits in my nest box but i think they changed their mind last minute was hopeing for a repeat performance of last year, some great tits are feeding youngsters in some neibours garden and my friend the coal tit has been clearly audible in the trees in bottom of garden along with robin

Dunnocks in the mock orange tree and magpies and woodpigeons have attempted at making nests but I don't think either were successful, blue tits normally use the bird box but it has been over taken by bees this year! Also, next door has blackbirds and robins are only down the road as are magpie and carrion crow and the swifts will be back under everyone's roofs soon :t: Also sparrowhawk and buzzard nest not too far away and I'm aware hobby nest only 10 minutes away!! House sparrows, goldfinch, greenfinch, coal tit, great tit also nest around my street and yellowhammer, nuthatch, jay, tawny owl and all the various types of warbler are all nesting 10 minutes down the road (where the hobby is)

Nice to know you have regular swifts nesting in the area are they common there.

After sitting empty for several years, I'm excited to finally have a pair of Black-capped Chickadees starting to nest in a box. I always have American Robins, Mourning Doves and House Sparrows, and usually Broad-tailed hummingbirds nesting as well. The hummers are here, but haven't started nesting yet as far as I can tell.

Eastern Bluebirds
Red-headed Woodpeckers
Red-bellied Woodpeckers
Downy Woodpeckers
Gray Catbirds
Brown Thrashers
Brown-headed Nuthatches
Blue Jays

None in my yard, plenty of boxes, undergrowth but nothing has nested, Dunnocks had a mooch around my ivy and started roosting in my hedge but again no avail, mind you lots nesting around me, however seen no Swifts yet.

Damian.

I have Blackbird, Robin, Dunnock, Wren, House Sparrow, Collared Dove, Goldfinch and Greenfinch. The Swifts aren't back yet

Mallard at the back of my Koi pond - got up Saturday morning and we now have 8 little ducklings - wonderful. Will post a few photos up later.

Funny we never saw the male all the time she was here sitting on the nest. But Saturday he turned up for half a hour - typical man :)

Dunnocks again, after successfully breeding last year.

House sparrows are in-and-out of a hedge at the front of the house with nesting material.

In the trees and shrubs at the end of the street are woodpigeon, collared dove, blue tit, robin and blackbird, and judging from the terretorial singing over the last two weeks, we have a breeding chiffchaff nearby this year.

No sign of the house martins on our neighbours' houses yet (which reminds me that I still have not put up my house-martin ledge under the eaves!)

House Sparrows were checking out the Sparrow Box going in and out innMarch but seen no activity since. Be great if birds moved into my Camera Nestbox.

I have already seen fledglings of Magpie, Feral Pigeon and Great Tit. Baby Rooks seem to still be in the nests (in another area I already saw them fluttering around). Singers include Redstart (great increase in all parts of the city), Blue Tit, Woodpigeon, Nightingale, Scops Owl, Mistle Thrush and maybe Lesser Whitethroat (we'll see if it stays in that bush or migrates away). There are also House Martins, Hooded Crows and further down the street House Sparrows. Buzzard seen too often to be just commuting through, so it is also a possibility. It seems that GS Woodpecker and Blackcap are not favoring our street this year...

There used to be 35+ but I have noticed that they have declined quite rapidly as last year there only was roughly 20 :C I have also noticed that they are arriving here later every year, they used to arrive at the end of april but now we are lucky to see any by the first week of may! However this year we have seen 11 migrating through so it's not all bad news :t:

i have blue tits with young in one box, noticed great tits paying a bit of attention to my other box , but not sure if they are using it yet

A fledged blue tit being fed in the garden yesterday :)

Hi daniel yes our swifts are scarce now round here any pairs i see now are a real bonus especially if i see them nesting.

I've got Dunnocks which are doing ok and had Robin until a couple of days ago. Looks like the young perished and the adults have abandoned the nest. No idea why they failed. Could be the heavy rain prevented them finding enough food and the young starved, they seemed to be doing so well until Monday evening too :-(
