Which binocular(s) did you use today? (2 Viewers)

Is the ruin behind you from WW2, or the 12th century, or somewhere in between?
That's part of Wheal Coates tin mine, near St Agnes, which (*quick Google...) has been inhabited since 1692, although the ruins visible here are probably part of the structures built around 1802.

A little up that coast was where one of the birders who quite literally changed my life (RBT) did a lot of peregrine-watching. This is the season to watch them hunting seawards after flocks of pigeons going up the coast. His descriptions of breathtaking flights gave me the inspiration to put in more serious effort after them here in London. I've been lucky enough to see many of the things he did (and some he might not have) but I'd like to visit North Cornwall someday and watch the birds there as a kind of pilgrimage.

Thanks. I've read that Cornwall was in the tin trade since the Bronze Age. Now that's history.

Day #3 of rather intensive use of my new Habicht 8X30 W.

Familiarization/getting used to each other. The more I look through it, the better I like it.

I watched a hilarious interaction between a perched Red-tailed Hawk and a Blue Jay that was having an absolute hissy-fit, and trying to get the Hawk to go away. The Hawk went down to the ground, where I couldn’t see it, and while it was gone the Blue Jay left, obviously thinking it had prevailed.

The Hawk then reappeared and perched for a few seconds. I couldn’t tell if it had anything in its talons, because this whole drama took place about 350 yards away. It then left, giving me an absolutely gorgeous view as it spread its wings and departed.

This little interaction all happened on top of a power pole, but I am on the third floor, so at just about the same level.

That was the high point of today.
