Genus: Yuhina, Yuhinas
Description
This genus contains Yuhinas from SE Asia. Yuhinas are small, crested Babblers. Most of them are frenetically active, confiding and easily seen flocking species of montane forest and scrub. Some are very common and the most familiar Himalayan birds, usually forming the core of mixed flocks.
Taxonomy
Yuhina is a genus in the Family Zosteropidae.
It was formerly included in the Family Timaliidae.
Recent studies show that the White-bellied Erpornis (previously White-bellied Yuhina) does not belong to the Yuhinas and not even to the Babblers. The species has been placed in the New World Vireos Vireonidae.
Striated Yuhina, Indochinese Yuhina and Chestnut-crested Yuhina are now placed in their own genus Staphida. Likewise, White-collared Yuhina is now placed in genus Parayuhina.
