Garden / Yard List 2015 (7 Viewers)

It must have been Suzuki Swift! 8-P

The weather up here is quite autumnal. All migratories are probably back to the south... Ok, not all - Chaffinches, Robins and Blackbirds sings. No matter rain or shine. And one lonely goose fly over this morning. Maybe WFG. I missed that cos first I think it would be just a regular big gull. Then I noticed faster wing beats, but it was too late for binoculars. So no tick...:brains:

I've been trying to get a photo of this species for years - finally managed today, there's still room for a little improvement I suppose, and he might have shown me his better side but, ah well...........;)

Looks like it's "giving you a pair of gauntlets" Richard. ;)

Those are great birds, Ryan and great numbers, how fab :) . I can see why you are doing the patchwork challenge :t::t::t:.
Can I ask, where your garden is in the uk, please? , BW, Carol
Spring still feeling slow but migrants slowly making it here. Still some glaring ommissions to aim for in May. Male serin on my hedge one morning the undoubted highlight this year so far.....

76 Serin
77 Sanderling
78 Turnstone
79 Greylag Goose
80 Swallow
81 Sandwich Tern
82 Sand Martin
83 Dunlin
84 Little Tern
85 Whimbrel
86 Blackcap
87 Wheatear
88 Whitethroat
89 Reed Bunting
90 Yellow Wagtail
91 Common Tern
92 House Martin

It is a real nice time to just relax in a deckchair and look around now ...White Storks drifting about all over the shop, two'a'penny Whinchats adorning stalks in the meadow, Lesser Spotted Eagles and Marsh Harriers with regularity, woodpeckers drumming behind. Pleasant sun.

Three newly arrived migrants today, plus first record of Grey Partridge of the year...

88. Grey Partridge
89. Common Whitethroat.
In the 'shrike pile'
90. Tree Pipit. Singing and displaying bird on good territory
91. Golden Oriole

Also three pairs of Goldeneyes in the forest pools, hopefully all will breed. One Red Squirrel, two Roe Deers.

Richard!....a strong buff colour to vent with overlying barring, can be a good feature for Orientalis :eek!:

Eek, I see what you mean, I thought the vent/undertail colouring was a bit odd but I rarely get that close to Cuckoos! It called exactly like a Common Cuckoo though, so maybe it just needed a shower (something it will certainly have had since yesterday, I'm thinking of building an ark if the rain continues like this;))

Little chance of Cuckoo but! Two "scythes" overhead after an hour at the window, and two days ahead of last year, puts me on 64.

I had a possible Hobby this morning, but won't count it until I get a better view.

I must say, Ken, considering how far south you are I'm surprised how late you get your Swifts - I had one in Yorkshire on Tuesday.

They are fairly regular H round about the 3rd for me at home, although they often turn up at the local reservoirs during April. My record date for one is the 17th, many moons ago when they were part of my "daily beat".

Huge numbers of Golden Plover in Reykjavik at the moment and this bird was a garden tick earlier in the week. In fact everyone seems to be reporting Golden Plovers in their gardens this past week.

What a great bird to see pottering around in your garden Edward! What are the blue flowers called?

Having seen your garden (unless you've since moved), I'm really quite impressed. Nice one!

tbh think 'southness' means little to Swifts etc once they're actually this side of the channel (seen 4 myself this year and I'm in Falmouth) - same when Sand Martins came in a while back - odd birds seemed to be being reported all over the country, more that they were being recorded at 'honeypot' nature reserve type areas??
