At the sea, Hawke Marine 7x32, very well rounded bino, and the classic Steiner Commander 7x50.
Leica Ultravid 8x32? Or Victory FL 8x32 perhaps? But in reality I want ONE pair that makes me happy. For me that's a lightweight (nix the 8x42NV), relatively compact (nix the 8x42SF), excellent IQ design with reasonable brightness (nix anything smaller than 8x30) and wide-enough field. The need for an extra 15min of 'light' at end of day is low priority.
Interesting... I've avoided 8x32UV only because of ER (I wear specs) but I did end up with a nice 8x32FL and have been grabbing them most often. That said, the view is not quite as 'big' (how it feels, not the FOV) as some newer designs, so I'm conflicted and sometimes grab 8x40SFL. The latter are in truth, the ones that tick all the boxes except that they are bulkier than smaller format bins (like the FL's and of course 30's). I've come close to trying 8x32SF's but hesitant to lose more money on buy/sell cycle :-(Leica Ultravid 8x32? Or Victory FL 8x32 perhaps?
Sounds like you’re describing a Swaro 8x32EL, might check all the boxes. Although if you like the SFL and FL, id really be surprised if you didn’t like the SF. The SF 8x32 is the biggest of the 32’s , but it’s light. Between the EL and SF 32, the trade off becomes size and FOV differences. But to tell you the truth, I don’t really notice the FOV difference much and all.Interesting... As far as IQ I remain loyal to Leica and the 7x35's are everything I need... but. I think I'd miss the extra magnification and although rationally I know they are plenty sturdy enough, I'm hesitant to take them, say, into a tropical forest. I wish Leica would announce an 8x32NV!
Seems like the 8x40 SFL should cover the 40/42 range if Nocs are to heavy, and EL might be a good pairing.Interesting... Nice, accurate turn of phrase on both counts. To decide on "just two" I like your concept of choosing "different ends of the spectrum". If someone gets along with a pocket model, then a small pocket paired with a full size 4+ EP model would make a lot of sense including an EDC bin and usually allowing to travel with both at little increase in bulk and weight for packing. If a pocket won't work for whatever reason, I would go with a 7x42 and a compact 10x32.It's interesting... this thread has made me think about my choices. If I refrain from thread drift and have to pick TWO, then I'd chose different ends of spectrum.
I will get the 10x32 and 12x42. Been using 8x32 for years and when I tested the 10x32, I found the 8x32 were not delivering the power that I need sometimes. Had the 10x42 as well for few years and I tried the 12x42, OMG, the latter became obsolete for my eyes and my need. This were mainly with Swarovski EL and NL models
If you could only have two pairs of binoculars. Which two would you chose to cover up all your needs? If you still would miss something, you may choose a third. But there must be a good reason for it.
I am asking this question myself... Having two pairs already and always said two is enough. But still playing with the idea to add a third one. But where does it stop? Isn't it like, I want more more more... can't you just be satisfied with what you already have? It is not that the money is growing on my back. And even if it does, there are probably better causes.
Just asking myself. Bird and nature watching is my passion, so no problem that is costs something. But can it be covered in two pairs of binoculars and one scope?
Ps. I have 10x32, 8x42 and 17-40x56. But asking myself do I miss a pocket bin, 10x50 or 12 power?
I will change the title: If you could choose "only" 5 bins...
Why two 8x42's?I have all of these already except for the HT 10x54 (I have a Leica Ultravid 10x50 instead). On second though, just make it the Nikon WX 10x50...
