John two of the points we talked about yesterday when we were watching the bird with Dave and Mark were its apparently longer legs and the greyish underwing which lead us to believe that we were looking at an AGP !!!!

Good news indeed but only one juv? I understood that Ring Ouzels can have clutches of 5 or 6 eggs so what can have happened to the others? Infertile eggs, predation etc, etc presumably.

CB if you don't know the area you will not appreciate the potential car parking problems that a wider audience may have entailed, particularly at this time of year with the amount of farming activity taking place.

Not sure that breeding took place last year Hugh - as far as I recall there was no sign of any youmg and there were no reported sightings of a female. So far this year I believe only the male has been seen again unless anyone has seen otherwise.

John, as I said to you, go see them they're lovely birds - birding should be about enjoying the birds rather than seeing how big a list you can get. I saw them in flight this week and they are in my book now - after all who can be definite about their background ;)

Re visit to the Dee Estuary - post number #3321 Himalaya, that indeed is an ambitious list of places to visit in one day - so in addition to what the other posters have said about the various species the following may be of help:- You say you want to visit places on the Dee Estuary so for a...

Just beat me to it there John ;) - but should mention that not only did we visit the Old Quay today but also Parkgate where we had terrific views of two ringtail Hen Harriers, a Merlin and the only Great White Egret there, on Donkey Stand flash for a time, so really close up and finally to...

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

I was at another Cheshire location last Wednesday when one of the local birders was explaining to others present how he and another chap had been over at Leasowe that morning and had great views of the Richard's Pipit....... by the two of them flushing it from the farmers field. When challenged...

Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast

Chris your witty response made me think - was the bird actually sitting up or down in the tree. Either way he wasn't causing any problems as I was the only person there at the time and since Cetti's was a life time first for me he could have been sitting up, down or sideways as far as I was...

Cetti's at Wigg Island Thanks to Mr Brandreth for originally pointing me in the right direction for the Cetti's Warbler at Wigg Island - had really good if somewhat brief views this morning. Heard him singing to start with then very obligingly he sat up in a small bush for me :t: The Cetti's...

Parkgate High Tide Bit deep for me that Jayne - my recollections, and a bit of Googling of the conjoint action of wind direction and barometric pressure are that unusually high or low pressure, or prolonged periods of strong winds can give rise to variations between actual sea level and the...

Woodlark and Great Northern Diver Found two distant Woodlarks in the stubble field almost opposite to the entrance to Brereton Country Park late morning. The rain had started again just as I arrived so the views through my bins were not the best and by the time I had walked back to the car for...

Kelsall Waxwings 12 Waxwings in the area of the Yeld car park near Kelsall this morning. Found 6 soon after we arrived despite being assured by the 5 birders already in the car park that they were gone ;) As well as taking berries the birds all spent some time flycatching from the tall trees.
