A fabulous action shot Delia, all those water droplets in the air, and well done getting the eye (Looking at the preview without reading glasses, I was expecting something like a whale)

Google Translate gives "conspicillatus" as the Latin for "viewed". As well as the pelican example, there's Pteropus conspicillatus, (the Spectacled Flying Fox) and Forpus conspicillatus (the Spectacled Parrotlet) etc etc. The common denominator seems to be to do with seeing or watching. Conspicuous meaning, of course, very noticeable or easily seen.
