I never felt the effects of said disease, still stopping by here at BF,,,then the vultures swept in and took my money, oh well still shopping for more :)

Bad news:The Powerball is mine I had it fixed, sorry to all...but I will buy all members any left over Redfield 8x binos from distributor,,,I hear they're the shizzle.

I'm with Bill except that would be an 8x30 EII and supper at Outback. I'd also hire somebody to mow my lawn and to feed the squirrels and birds seeds and peanuts when it's 10*F outside and the ground is iced over like it will be tomorrow morning.

Not to be selfish, I'd hire an army of top notch mercenaries and do what the US, France, and Russia have failed to do - wipe out ISIS. Then hire another army to kick the Russians out of Ukraine.

Then I'd buy myself a 2016 Honda CR-V and take a nationwide tour of our national parks with Ken Burns as my tour guide.

Finally, I'd set up a foundation to find a cure for cancer without the use of harsh drugs. Yeah, that should do it.

I'm a bit concerned, I agree with 99% of that o:D

I all ready HAVE the binoculars I need! |8)| I just need to be able to quit working so I can use them as much as I'd like. I'd love to specialize in "Birds of the Caribbean!"

Me too. If I hit the jackpot I wouldn't buy any binoculars.
I don't need or use more than 2-3 pairs tops. Plus, I don't need
millions to buy a pair of bins. I can see the money coming in handy
for someone who is a collector or who never had enough money to buy
his or her dream bino.

I would just be happy not to work anymore. I would do the things I'm
interested in and, since I'm not too materialistic, I would give a lot to charities for the sick, needy
and conservation groups. I would buy a small house for me...that would be my largest purchase and I'd help my friends who are struggling.

I think there's a pattern emerging here, and I hope this thread doesn't get moved to Ruffles Have Ridges since it veers off the topic of optics, because it's still relevant to using those optics, namely, having enough money to take your bins wherever in the world you want for however long you want instead of jamming your birdwatching into a lunch hour or part of a day on the weekend or that once a year or once in a lifetime birding trip.

It's also good to see that people are thinking about others, too, rather than just themselves.

Frank - Nobody won the PA Powerball on Saturday, you have another chance today, the next drawing is tonight for $ 1.5 Billion! Forget about starting from scratch and making your own optics, you could buy several optics companies for that much and tweak their designs to your specifications. As long as you're not thinking about making premium porros, then you'd have to start from scratch.

I don't know what Powerball is, but I assume a lot, like Spanish El Gordo?? or Euro Lottery top prize. Say £160m plus.

Unfortunately, I probably wouldn't see it finished. But I'd get built a 200 inch modern but economically built scope on La Palma. If this could be built for less than £20m. Also a modern good secondhand Gulfstream jet and hired pilots to transport amateurs to use it, or possibly used hire aircraft or commercial flights paid for, plus funds for twenty years telescope running. And paid managers, as I don't want the hassle.
I hope La Palma doesn't collapse into the sea in the next 50 years, as it won't do New York much good.

Also two 80 inch economically built scopes elsewhere. All with paid managers.

For me, nothing much, maybe a 20km rangefinding binocular, Swiss? £20,000.
A state of the art image intensifier, but with light pollution not much use.
A top thermal imager.
These above are just toys, as I don't need them.

I would ask Canon to make me a low weight Canon 22x56 IS and 30x56IS.

80% of the rest would be donated to charities, with tax provisions fully accounted for.

I really don't need any new optics.

Ah, Brock,
$1.5 billion that should be enough.

That's the best thing to do, but to charities that don't pay their head man like Donald Trump. I would still have plenty to fund an all out assault on a new state of the art Porro.

......... I'd also hire somebody to mow my lawn and to feed the squirrels and birds seeds and peanuts ...........

What about Big Red!?

All of them.

Then I would start making my own.

Frank, you might want to spend the first few dollars on Rosetta Stine - Chinese.

Aphfluenza has a catchy sound to it. Does anyone want to come up with a definition? Maybe SuperDuty would be willing to share part of his royalties.

For Pete's sake couldn't you have at least thought of something a bit ambitious with all that cash? :king:

Sounds brilliant!

In truth, winning $1.5 billion would turn out to be a nightmare for most people.
I would think that maybe one in ten could deal with it. I certainly would not wish for such a win.

You would need to be strong, maybe about 40 years old with a background in economics or business.
I would think it essential to take the advice of professionals who are probably provided as part of the win.

What amazes me is that many winners of our Lottery have ended up broke in a few years or gone completely off the rails.
A few deal with it well, but not many.
The ones that do well do carry on with their old life.

Hi Lee,
Well, if $1.5 billion was enough, I would pay for Putin to take a trip to Mars.
On the scenic route.

This has my vote :t:

Have you heard that Putin is entering the following events in the upcoming Olympics:
Mens 100m
Mens 200m
Mens 400m
& Ladies Shot-put :eek!:

Not that he takes drugs or anything...... :-O

If a billion dollars is too much to handle, you could always join Warren Buffet, Bill Gates and other members of The Giving Pledge and agree to give at least half of it away, which will make it easier to handle. I'd gladly trade the nightmare of having too much money for the nightmare of not having enough and living from paycheck to paycheck, which is what many Americans are facing today.

The top 1% are worth as much as the bottom 90%. Not since the Great Depression has there been such a wealth inequality in the U.S. I call the PowerBall and MegaMillions "the great equalizers." I'm off to buy my tickets now, keep your fingers crossed, if I win, BF gets a nice donation!
