Hi, I have found some further sources of information about the coati:

Article "Presència i control del coatí, Nasua nasua" (in Catalan with English abstract; table 2 and figure 1 are very informative)
http://www.raco.cat/index.php/BolletiSHNBalears/article/viewFile/254903/341884

BIOATLAS: http://bioatles.caib.es/serproesfront/VisorServlet?lang=en#
The Bioatlas is the online Species Geographic Information System of the Regional Ministry of Environment to plot the distribution of the records for the different species in the Balearics. It's in 4 languages including English.
If you search by taxon for Nasua nasua (Latin name of coati) you will see the distribution in Mallorca.
So far there the northernmost record was near sa Pobla, at 8.5 km of Albufereta, so Steve's record next to the nature reserve is very important.

I have informed the government's Species Protection Service staff who are already looking for this individual. Thanks Steve

First full day on Mallorca and caught (eventually) the bus from port Pollenca to the S”Albufera reserve- there were. A few birds of note. Mainly the 43 flamingos by the Ciboller 1 (mainly) and Ciboller11 hide- These were occasionally spooked by a booted eagle , marsh harrier (didn’t really phase them) and a female hen harrier.

There were seven marbled ducks at SaRoca later on as well as a couple of glossy ibis.

Other birds included little stint, stone curlew, chiffchaff, stonechat , wigeon , spotted redshamk , several gargany, Dunlin ( courtesy of Clive Griffin - a mine of information and good to meet you) cetti and reed warbler .

Tomorrow pick up the car so not reliant on public transport

Thanks pere,
Enjoyed our chat earlier in the week.
Also today Spotless Starling singing at Can Cuarassa and first summer med gull Tucan late evening.
Steve.

The weather has really settled down now and more migrants are arriving. Early news this morning was of a Spotted crake found by Juanjo at Prat de Sant Jordi. I went there after my appointment at Specsavers (no jokes please) but it didn’t show. The cover is quite dense there so it could well still be in the area.
I also went to Golf II Santa Ponsa. The greens were covered in Yellow wagtails on their way in and White wagtails on their way out. Also a lark there, distant and with distinctive black markings on the upper breast which made me think Calandra but after getting prolonged but distant views, I will have to settle for Short-toed lark. The one day I forgot my camera.
Also a hunting Osprey there and several Barn swallows.
Mike

Nice photos Bob, I particularly like the Glossy Ibis, looks like you had close views?
Great to meet Rob (ggshrike) at Albufera on Monday, nice to have some good company. Rob didn't mention about 6 or so Gargany, a Common Sandpiper and a few Ruff. The Flamingos put on a good show, courting and dancing. I totally missed photographing the Hen Harrier, but Rob got some good shots as it flew right over the Cibollar 1 hide.

Hello!
This morning at la Gola a flash of a Subalpine Warbler through the window just when a big group of schoolchildren have arrived, so not sure about if it was eastern, moltonii... Very colorful.

Regards,
Cristina.

Another seawatch tonight. Very little wind so not ideal, a nice easterly would do it.
Nevertheless, huge numbers of mixed Shearwaters flew south but not as close inshore as usual.
Just as I was wishing for something else to appear, an adult summer Mediterranean Gull flew past. What a beautiful Gull.
I am going to Albufera on Friday arriving about 10am so I hope to bump into a few visiting birders, that would be great.
Quite a few Barn swallows flying around the lighthouse tonight too. Mike

Mortix yesterday with plenty of distant black vultures and a couple of blue rock thrushes being best of birds. Bumped into SG who had seen wryneck which we both heard and there were also curl buntings and plenty of seton .

Went to albufereta to try and see Bluethroat both yesterday evening and this morning but no joy, GOod to meet up with Patryk who provided good advice as to where to view vultures.

At son real there were at least four hawfinch - possibly five. I would have paid good money for a sign near to the hide asking non birders to be quiet and not to ride their bikes around the water pond! Eyes raised here.

Was osprey and purple heron at Albufera this afternoon and a snake amongst others - but tea been served and I value my life ......

Great to meet you Rob, shame we could not connect with the Bluethroat in Albufereta. I went back there mid-afternoon but still no luck.
As to the vultures, after we parted I went to the Albercutx tower, saw a Ring Ouzel on the way up while waiting behind hordes of cyclists, and there were 6 vultures, 4 black and 2 griffons, right above the tower. I was too late to take good pictures, they had moved on but they must have been very close from the top. Just to show that it may not be worth going all the way to Cuber to see them.
I also saw my first Woodchat Shrike of the season near Cami LLenaire in Pollensa.

Clive yeah the Ibis were pretty close from the Solar Panel Hide one afternoon of our visit.
Nice shots of Adult Flamingo, sadly only the juveniles on view from Bishop 1 when we were there.
Been a stunning day back here in Blighty today but forecast for Easter is Pants so I think the highlight for me will be watching the Garden Blue Tits building their nest between Sleet Showers.
Wish I Was There.

Cheers

Bob

Greetings to all birders in or going to Mallorca- for the first time in 16 years I will not be there this Easter as my teenagers have got fed up with beach holidays and so we are going to a farm at the south end of the Malvern Hills to watch the rain come down! Still, there might be a few passage birds like Ring Ouzels and Wheatears around. I am missing Mallorca terribly already, but best wishes to you all- Hola to Cristina (and little Cristina) and I hope someone gets out at night in PP to track down the Scops Owls- and I always felt safer walking round at night in PP than in most places in England. Have a good time and enjoy Mallorca while you can- Hugh Matthews in wet Northampton

Visited Cuber today (missed the place you suggested Patrick I was concentrating so much on the road and cyclists) and parking there was chaotic at best, Did see however several black vultures go over . On way back towards Mortix between the two reservoirs saw a kite - got reasonable photos and will check to see if black or red tomorrow.

At Mortix 2 subalpine warbler plenty of black vultures and a probable Bonellis eagle - took lots of photos ( mainly distant) but some fairly close but before calling would rather hear an expert opinion !! So if I bump into you tomorrow Mike at Albufera ,,,,,, Intend heading down for around ten ish after dropping off the two ladies who are horse riding! Hopefully see you there,

Hi ggshrike, I am meeting Clive tomorrow at 10am in the car park outside Albufera so I’m sure we will see you in the reserve.
Some good birds around today, Savi’s Warbler, Black eared wheatear and quite a few Woodchats and Northern wheatears.
Mike

Been back from P Pollensa for 2 weeks now and have another 4 weeks to wait until I return. Really enjoy the forum and will try and contribute in the future. Good to hear that the first shrikes have returned.
