So, I decided to start a new thread. It doesn't seem appropriate to post in the "talk me out of Noctivid" thread, that ship has sailed. I have to compliment Doug at Cameraland I didn't expect they would arrive so soon.
First impressions. I wish I could say all is peachy. The first thing I noticed when removing them from the box was these silver rings on the objective lenses. Upon inspection it appears the objective covers are touching the lenses and smudging them. I can't help but think this is unacceptable for a bino costing this much. I do not like having to clean my optics, especially from the factory, but some gentile teasing with a lens cloth and smudges are gone. Ok, I'll order an extra set and go at them with an exacto knife and shave them a few millimeters. The eyecups are similar to the Ultravid series. I was prepared for this and they are functional but I would have liked to see quality of eyecups like the Swaro EL at this price. I had read about the awkward placement of the studs for the neck strap and experienced it first hand, it does rub my hand as I try to focus, perhaps time will show a better way to hold the bins.
The good. Well, the image. This is obviously an "alpha" view. Unfortunately for me the glasses arrived late last night and it was dark. Today the weather is nasty and overcast but it didn't stop me from taking them out. Despite weather conditions I found the view bright. Images were sharp and crisp. I pan left, I pan right and it's glorious, no rolling ball. I appreciated the natural and relaxed view of the Ultravid and this seems to be on par. I did not get to spend as much time as I would have liked this morning with the glass but shall report back when I have more experience. Wish you all well.
