Exchange action of Zeiss straps!!! (4 Viewers)

Doubt these warning labels will limit legal liability a judge just awarded 2 billion in a weed killer case, weed killer class actions lawsuits are being filled worldwide.

Canada has forced the tobacco giants to include warning labels on their cigarette packages for some time the provinces are still suing.

"B.C., in 1998, was the first province to sue tobacco companies for damages, adopting its first Tobacco Damages and Health Care Costs Recovery Act. Every province and territory (save the Yukon) has followed suit, with claims now exceeding $120-billion."

Its ironic Canada still allows the export of asbestos to India. Will they sue?

Surely true, lawyers are skilled at finding liabilities.
Still, the warning label creates a solid defense. Unless there is a big payoff potential, the motivation to sue is greatly tempered by the increased hurdle that creates.
Don't think the weed killer had the Proposition 95 warning and it has not been shown to be the cause, but skilled plaintiffs can work wonders, especially with victims facing blasted lives.

Can someone please tell me where the serial number is on Terra ED bins please?
I cannot find original box or docs although I have purchase receipt. Zeiss were not helpful at all when I emailed.
Said they could not register mine due to data protection They contacted me! I contacted them back!

On the 32mm models it is underneath the bino (or on its back depending on your point of view) right next to the hinge. See pic below. I believe it is in the same place for 42mm models too.

I am grateful for the promise of a new strap replacement. Interesting that there were no actual detail in the composition of the offending polymer compared to the E.U. standard.
As for the £25 voucher I am somewhat cynical. I started buying "serious" optics around 1974 and have an accumulation of lens care products. I did think the cleaning pack at £29.99 might be worth the extra, because of it's compactness/neatness. I visited the online shop and it was no longer available and in any case would cost me another £15 or so when the extra cost (£4,99) VAT and postage are added. I tried the large lens cleaning cloths but they were also sold out.
I shouldn't criticise or be ungrateful for what is to me a worthless gesture.
As an "oldie" birder (73) should I be reckless and still use my current strap rather than replacing it?
I should also add that the last thing I need is optical cleaning fluid. I followed Bill Cook's recipe from his book and still have about 5 litres for about the price of two or three propriety 100ml dispensers. This cleaning fluid works great on windows and windscreens and is again cheaper than Supermarkets and Car accessory retailers.

Laws and actual health hazards, I'd rather we had some more objective info from an informed source. :-C

I'm sure the law-makers would say their laws are based on objective info from informed sources but like you, I sometimes wonder......

I may be one of the early ones going through this process, but:
I received two emails from Zeiss, with promo codes to insert into the box at checkout and a link to their UK products website.
There are only three straps available: a harness, a 'normal' strap and a smaller one for the Terra.
So, i picked the middle one, and proceeded to checkout, entering the promo code and expecting the 'totally free of charge' as per the offer.
However, the strap is £40, the postage five pounds +, and the voucher worth £25 - so Zeiss want about £20 to complete the order.
What's going on? Anyone from Zeiss reading this?
To be honest, if i haven't made some elementary error and this is how it works, they can stuff their strap.

And in addition, while we're on the subject of complying with legislation, this is in direct breach of the Competition and Markets Authority laws, so i guess they better sort it out.

That is crazy and I think that £40 strap is a special 'comfort strap' and not the regular strap at all.

Try this http://www.zeiss.com/service/strap where Zeiss say you can order a replacement free of charge and with Zeiss covering the postage.

For sure Zeiss want to replace all affected straps without it costing the owner anything.

I believe there will be further info in a Birdforum newsletter soon.

Hello paddy,

I have received this confirmation email from Zeiss!
"Dear ZEISS customer,
Thank you for your registration for the exchange of the strap on your ZEISS binoculars! You will receive your new strap shortly free of charge. "

I read the post last night, sent an email, received confirmation email at 6.15am and a form to fill in , sent the form back and received confirmation that a new free strap would be sent plus a £25 voucher, top class customer service.

The link i followed was from the email from Zeiss, with the voucher code included.
All i could find in the straps category were the three i outlined above - no 'normal' strap.
I understand this must be a big client liaison activity for Zeiss, but all i did was follow their own instructions in the email.

I received the details of the voucher this evening and the items I would like to have bought with my voucher are out of stock at the present moment on the Zeiss shop online website. Probably customers have been buying items with there vouchers and now I’ll have to wait for items been back in stock.
Ian,

Is this an e-mail where some of the message has been lost in translation? Are eligible customers getting a free strap AND a £25 voucher? That is how I have read the e-mail.

I really don't know. I got the email in response to having completed the form, followed the relatively simple set of instructions through to the checkout part.
In my case, it doesn't really matter. I don't use straps anyway, but just thought i'd do the right thing in case i sold either of my Zeiss bins on - which i won't.

Might be a bit of an irritation for others who rely on them though.

paddy ... you just had to fill out the form, so name, address, the binoculars and the serial number!
The next day I had the confirmation email that Zeiss sent me a new strap!
The coupon code is only if you want to order something in the Zeisshop.
I do not understand the confusion right now?
