Hey birders,
First time on these forums so firstly I would like to say Hello.
I have been curious on an I.D of a bird that doesnt look anything like a crow but Over the say past 6 months we have noticed this bird go from a crying chick in a crows nest (with definite crow parents) to a bird that has come into its own.
Story goes we recently moved to a semi-rural town called imbil In queensland australia and noticed a massive crows nest in a tree no more that 100+mtrs from the house. We were quite happy with this and felt privileged to have animals nesting so close to the house. (other nest / more animals strewn all over the property). We also started to notice slight squeeks coming from in the nest. "oh how cute" we though the crows have a baby aboard. Over the next few months we seen more and more of this "ugly duckling" coming from the nest with the parents even feeding it and flying over to its calls. Could anyone please I.D this bird as its definitely not a crow. Are crows even known to foster other bird species or would there be any bird species that use other species as a "chick raising service"? We have heard its "song" and its far from crow like and more like a higher pitched squeek (bad description).
Thanks in advance
Cheers, Matt
