If anyone is really desperate for some ticks, I know some places it's easy to get a whole lot of Ixodes ricinus

PS: I'm not a competitive lister nor a particularly enthusiastic twitcher, and I've never heard of "league tables" in this context before.
Enjoy...!

I frankly don't understand why having rules to a list is a problem for some here:

#1 either you comply to the rules in order to compare lists with others, and you would comment about those rules in an objective way (like: these are the rules, and that's it);

#2 either you have your own list with own rules and you wouldn't bother with the rules and this topic and don't comment.

You simply don't come here and complain about some rules that some people obey, if you are one of the guys that have a 'your list your rules' philosophy (#2), because if so, by definition you won't critisize other people's list or rules.

Anyway, I find it a bit odd that the SOP enables you to count birds that have just been released. I still want to see Aquatic warbler in Belgium that is often mist-trapped but hardly ever seen in the field. It would be easy to go to a ringer's station and wait for one to fly in these days (some stations have them almost daily the last week), but that isn't in the spirit of finding birds that are flying free.
Ofcourse having an aquatic warbler in your hands or close in the hand is very joyful and seeing birds released after ringing is a nice experience, but I can enjoy that without having to put that bird on my list. So actually, I would consider those that want to tick it just after release a bit too much focused on their list and not on the joy of birding. But that's their life / rules / choice.

Ah, so this thread was just a long-winded way to have a dig at twitchers. Pity you couldn't just say that in your first post. You have an oddly superior attitude for someone who doesn't know the difference between a live bird and a dead one.

Exactly so.
