Ouch! It’s very painful reading about all the great birds being seen in Mallorca whilst I am in a cold and foggy East Sussex.
I can also add a Pallid Harrier seen yesterday and I believe it was also logged leaving the Island at the tower this morning by Patrick.
In view of recent discussions on this thread, I hope Patrick will be able to post a photograph or two on here so that we can gain some more experience of this now regular migrant raptor.
Many thanks, Mike

Back at my desk today after a few days away.

Both Friday and Saturday AM were spent 07:30-10:30 is at S'Aalbufera. 3 Great Reed Warblers and 3 Savi's Warblers about the most unusual things? I had 6 Marbled Teals as well.

I thought Savi's wasn't supposed to occur?

Hi Andrew. Savi’s Warbler is seen some years, two were reeling when I visited a few years ago in spring. I’m not entirely up to date but I do know they have been heard and seen this year. They are still rare though so it’s a good record.
Great Reed warblers are seen every year in reasonable numbers, I’m in the UK at the moment but I can post the total number of breeding pairs when I get home. Same for Marbled duck, I think they are doing quite well. Mike

The 2015 Balearic Bird Report gives the following Savi's records:
s'Albufera, 1 male singing 31-III, 2 males 1-IV, 1 bird singing from 2-
IV to 21-IV, and on 7-V, 2 birds singing on 18-V and 29-V, 1 bird
singing 2-VI.

Marbled Teal are breeding at s'Albufera but their numbers are also bolstered by a series of releases. Eleven were released in 2015.

Martin

12 Bee-eaters have been seen at Pollensa. They will certainly brighten things up for a while. One of the great favourites for visiting birders. Mike

Couple of shots of the Alpine Accentors below the tower on the 2nd march.
Little Grebe that probably hit the wires at the Salines de Sillot on the alcudia- Can Picafort road.
and S.E. Owl looking straight at me while resting on the 5th march Son Real.
Steve.

As Mike mentioned, I just managed to catch a Pallid Harrier passing the tower on Monday morning, a juvenile male, it seems, according to Forsman book. Another Pallid was seen around Can Cullerassa the previous day, so very likely the same bird.
That same morning I also managed to finally connect with a Bluethroat, aslo in Can Cullerassa.
Yesterday morning in S'Albufera.
Sa Roca, little other than 4 male Garganeys.
In Cibollar, single digits of Little Stint, Curlew Sandpiper, Ruff, Redshank, Greenshank, Marbled Teal. Plus a couple dozens very vocal Avocets and BW Stilts, and more usual ducks, egrets and cormorants. A Collared Pratincole was also seen there on Sunday, I believe.

Two fabulous birds there Patrick. So glad you got the Bluethroat.
A big storm last night to greet us on our return, hope it brings down some interesting migrants.
Mike

Hello Patrick,
It was not the same bird at all, the one we saw was an absolutelly stunning adult male, crossing from Llenaire to Albufereta, seen 2 times, but impossible to get a picture.

Hola Pep, I did not know yours was an adult male, no one mentioned it when I posted on Whatsapp. Shame I missed that one. So we have 3 Pallid so far this season (that I know of) and hopefully more to come.

Some great birds guys.
Temmincks stint
White Wag,
Little Stint all Salbufers 7th march,
And a record shot of a Crag Martin Tucan also 7th March.
Steve.

Hello!
A big flock of Common Swift, House and Crag Martins this morning were feeding on mosquitos and other insects at la Gola.
Also two Yellow Wagtails and some Crossbills.
At 1pm there was one Subalpine Warbler on the tamarisks next to the information centre.

Regards,
Cristina.

A couple of shots of the Balearic Warbler at the tower on the 8th march.
And Cirl Bunting and Hawfinch at Son Real on the 9th march.

A great day running around the north, meeting some lovely people and seeing some wonderful birds.
Firstly, meeting Max on the platform at Albufereta first thing and having a very pleasant time, seeing an obliging Bluethroat, a Woodchat, Purple Heron and some common migrants.
Later, a very controversial Sub-Alpine Warbler was at La Gola. Things have apparently changed in terms of sub-species which I wouldn’t want to get involved in. I think there are two birds present and one is being mooted as an eastern. Patrick has some brilliant photos which I hope he will post here so if anyone wants to comment, please feel free!
Also reported: male Rock Thrush (monticola saxatillis), Alpine Swift, Wood Warbler, Pied flycatcher, Whinchat and Bonelli’s Warbler.
I just wish I could get up north more often. Mike

As Mike says, a great day in the north today: Peregrine and 3 Blue rock thrush in Formentor; Subalpine warbler, Crossbill, Willow warbler and a possible Spotted flycatcher (seen by a member of our group) at la Gola; Rock thrush, Purple heron, Great egret, 6 Greater flamingos and Bluethroat at Albufereta (thanks Mike); Alpine swift, Nightingale, 2 Booted eagles, several Yellow wagtails and 1 Water pipit at can Cuarassa.
All together an excellent day out birding with Cristina and a RSPB group from North Staffordshire.
