    Mynah Fight 53

In Honolulu I recently observed a family(?) of 4 Mynahs acting out a tag-team fight. After about 2 minutes, they gathered in a circle to symbolically peck the grass, one at a time. I concluded that 2 parents were teaching their kids how to fight. Anybody ever see anything like it?

    Fledgling House sparrow

It's mum was just above the youngster, due to depth of field,i.e her being out of focus, I decided to crop from portrait to landscape and give the fledgling the spot light. Shame about the leaf just in front of it's beak though.

  11. Feed Me!

    Feed Me!

Well, at least I presume it's a fledgling doing the wing fluttering feed me act! A lot of flying backwards and forwards to the nest I showed you yesterday. I thought once they'd left that was it. Edit: Huh! of course that isn't a baby, as per Chris's comment! Didn't have my thinking hat on. So...

    Where are the kids?

Was in the garden late on Tuesday and heard the adult wren constantly calling / alarming, upon closer inspection I found 3 fledglings in the same vicinity all eager to be fed, managed to get two near each other (next image)

  24. Levels of Flight

    Levels of Flight

This fledgling (presumed a female due to size; no ringing/banding with this as the first year that the parents had a successful nest) was hatched about May 8 and fledged on June 18, 2009. It is now a week or two away from needing to leave its parents territory. Today it was picking at scraps...
  25. Meal From Mom

    Meal From Mom

This falcon fledgling has just received a mid-air meal (pigeon) from her mom. It was the first time that I saw this kind of exchange. It trains the young ones to make mid-air strikes on their own prey rather than having meals delivered to the ledge.
